
Crime in London is rising.
The number of notifiable offences in the year to August 2018 increased by three per cent, compared to the previous twelve months. [1]
There was also a spike in the number of homicides in the capital, in early 2018.
Between February and May, there were an average of 16 homicides a month.
This was also coupled with a sharp increase from March to June in knife injuries. [2]
Tomorrow, the Mayor and Met Commissioner will face London Assembly Members to answer questions on crime in the capital. Questions will cover topics including:
- Tackling Crime
- Future Challenges for policing in London
- Tackling Violence Against Women and Girls
- Reducing London's road crime
The guests are:
- Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London
- Cressida Dick CBE QPM, Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis
Following this, Assembly Members will submit motions on various topics.
The meeting will take place on Thursday, 1 November from 10:00am in The Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).
