Met Police should use the full extent of the law to deal with attacks such as milkshake-throwing.
The London Assembly has today called for people of all political persuasions to be protected.
Susan Hall AM, who proposed the motion said:
“Our ancestors fought and died to protect our freedom of speech and it remains the cornerstone of our democracy. We should take a zero-tolerance approach to the tiny minority who try to use intimidation, abuse and violence as a way to shut down constructive political debate.
“We have seen a growing number of people from across the political spectrum being targeted in recent years, meaning that it is more important than ever for the Metropolitan Police to take a zero-tolerance approach to these criminals.”
The full text of the motion is:
“This Assembly believes London should be a safe place for people of all political persuasions and calls on the Metropolitan Police to enforce the law fully when a personal attack occurs, from aggressive intimidation, harassment and online abuse, to milkshake throwing, physical violence and worse.”
