News from Andrew Dismore: Hendon School wins award from Sadiq Khan for youth programme

16 October 2018

Hendon School in Barnet has won a Mayor’s award for their ‘Silence the Violence’ initiative, which raises awareness of gang and knife violence. The students delivered a conference for 150 local primary students featuring a diverse range of speakers including the police, a former gang member and addicts.

The Young Londoner awards, organised by Sadiq Khan’s volunteering programme Team London, celebrate the many amazing Londoners who give up their time to help others and make the capital a better place. This year, for the first time, a new Young Londoner award was presented to young people who have used voluntary work to raise awareness of and help tackle youth violence.

Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore AM said:

‘It is excellent that Hendon School has won a “Young Londoner” award from Sadiq Khan, in recognition of their work in combatting gangs. Sadiq really understands the importance of supporting volunteer groups and the contribution they can make to tackling problems like violent crime and gangs. This award is very well deserved, and I am sure  the young people involved  will  feel that the Mayor values their contribution.’
