In response to the news that Camden will receive a share of £6 million from the Mayor’s Air Quality Fund to establish a new Low Emission Neighbourhood (LEN) in Camden Town and to deliver the Camden Cargo Bike Network, local London Assembly Member, Andrew Dismore AM, said:
“This is great news for local residents who have been exposed to dangerous levels of air pollution for far too long.
“With the local council providing additional funding, we are likely to see significant investment made in enhancing the green infrastructure in Camden Town, making it more user friendly for pedestrians and cyclists in the community.
“The delivery of the Camden Cargo Bike Network will also provide vital support to local businesses across the borough to reduce their emissions and make the transition away from using the most polluting vehicles in their fleets.
“Transforming and improving our neighbourhoods in this way, will bolster the efforts being undertaken to tackle toxic air in our capital, which contributes to the premature deaths of almost 10,000 Londoners per year, stunts the development of children’s lungs and leads to a number of other serious health problems”.
