MQT replies

  • Reference: 2011/1029
  • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
  • Meeting date: 23 March 2011
I noted last month that when written answers to questions were published following the Mayor's Question Time budget meeting, all of the questions relating to transport had received a 'holding' answer rather than a substantive answer. Why was this, what is the procedure for clearing and signing off replies relating to transport and can we be assured that this will not happen again?

Cycling on Bridges 2

  • Reference: 2011/1026
  • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
  • Meeting date: 23 March 2011
Why does TfL's own guidance suggest reallocating roadspace for the Cycling Superhighways 'Traffic Directorate Interim Guidance Note: Modelling Cycle Super-highways' (29th July 2010) but not for on the bridges where cyclists make up over 25% of traffic (and growing) outnumbering cars and taxis?

  • Meeting date: 23 March 2011
Do TfL have forecasts for the number of cyclists crossing the bridges into central London?

Cycle Lane on Vauxhall Bridge

  • Reference: 2011/1024
  • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
  • Meeting date: 23 March 2011
A concerned cyclist has asked me to raise with you the issue of conditions for cyclists on Vauxhall Bridge Road, where the advisory cycle lane on the junction approaching Vauxhall Bridge has faded to the extent that drivers now ignore it completely. TfL's own data shows that cycling has increased on Vauxhall Bridge by 80% over two years, while my constituent tells me that it has also become noticeably more dangerous. My constituent asks 'Why has the advisory cycle lane been allowed to fade to the point of non-existence on one of the busiest roads in London?'

Cycling in London 3

  • Reference: 2011/1023
  • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
  • Meeting date: 23 March 2011
My constituent believes that the 5% mode share for cycling in London will not happen without sufficient reallocation of road space and changes to traffic signals to take more account of cyclists. What plans do TfL have to prioritise bicycles at traffic lights on the TLRN?

Cycling in London 2

  • Reference: 2011/1022
  • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
  • Meeting date: 23 March 2011
Given the difficulty of counting cycle trips at the borough level will the Mayor ask TfL to consider setting a 'mode share target' for cycling on the TLRN.
