One of my Hackney constituents asked me to table the following question: 'Why is it that, when there are road or other civil engineering works, provision for cyclists is the first casualty? For example, cycling from Stoke Newington to Stratford yesterday, I found that the Lea Navigation path was blocked at Hackney Wick (for works in connection with the Olympic Park). No diversion for cyclists was signposted. Eventually one is forced to emerge on the dual carriageway section of the A11 leading from the Bow flyover to Stratford -- not a safe route for cycling. There are numerous road works...
