Play Quarters

  • Reference: 2016/4429
  • Question by: Joanne McCartney
  • Meeting date: 16 November 2016
Palmers Green in Enfield has been chosen to pilot Play Quarters in London. This is a follow on from Play Streets which allows the local community to agree a time slot with the local Council to close their street to through traffic to allow children to play. Play Quarters will join up these streets and encourage stronger links between local communities. Do you support this project and if so, how can you encourage other London Boroughs to adopt similar schemes?

I welcome TfL's trial to deploy a new digital bus stop display sign to deliver live travel information as further countdown information boards at bus stops is an issue that I have been raising since 2012. If the trial is successful, do you envisage every bus stop in London having a countdown information board?

I have been asked by Just Space to highlight their work entitled "Reclaim Our Spaces", which has examined how many community spaces across London (from community centres to street markets and music venues) have been lost in recent years. Existing policies are proving inadequate to protect them. Will the Mayor study the report and bring forward proposals to ensure effective protection for existing community spaces?
