Bus speeds (1)

  • Reference: 2016/2674
  • Question by: Joanne McCartney
  • Meeting date: 20 July 2016
TfL figures have recently confirmed that bus journeys in London are increasing in time and TfL's latest bus speed data shows a clear pattern of declining speeds across London. The figures demonstrate that too many buses are caught in congestion meaning that more buses are needed just to keep frequencies as they are - a very inefficient use of resources. This in turn causes wasted time and frustration for passengers, many of whom rely on this mode of transport. What steps can be taken to prevent buses being caught in congestion and thereby slowing this important mode of transport?

Operation Bodmin

  • Reference: 2016/2667
  • Question by: Joanne McCartney
  • Meeting date: 20 July 2016
A police officer from the Woodside Safer Neighbourhood Team in Haringey has set up an initiative, Operation Bodmin which tackles blue badge misuse in the borough. I accompanied officers in March this year and in that afternoon, three cars were seized and a number of misused blue badges were seized, as well as penalty notices being issued. Will you consider rolling-out Operation Bodmin to implement it across London? This seems like a really effective way for partners such as the MPS, TfL and local councils to tackle the misuse of blue badges.
