Fare Dodging (Supplementary) [11]

  • Question by: Geoff Pope
  • Meeting date: 21 March 2007
So what do you now say is the total revenue loss on the whole bus service per year?

There is also a bit of a problem with your mathematics here, because when you responded to my question earlier this year about the revenue loss, you said that there was £8 million on the articulated buses and £22 million on double decker buses. David Brown, the Managing Director, did confirm that £30 million was the loss last year for total bus service. Do we not seem to have forgotten the single decker buses?

OK. It would be useful to actually know what the figure is - rather like the Olympics. Otherwise we cannot check to see if it is improving.

So we may have them in future?

  • Question by: Roger Evans

Just a moment, Chairman, please, we will move on to the bendy buses. How many police officers and ticket inspectors does it take to carry out an exercise on a bendy bus?

Fare Dodging (Supplementary) [6]

They do not seem to be having much impact because we are told that nearly 10% of all revenue is lost on these bendy buses.

  • Question by: Angie Bray
  • Meeting date: 21 March 2007
You are blaming us for your policies. You are blaming us for our scrutiny.

Fare Dodging (Supplementary) [4]

  • Question by: Roger Evans
  • Meeting date: 21 March 2007
You rightly said that you have to estimate the amount of money that you are losing. How do you carry out that calculation to reach that result?

Fare Dodging (Supplementary) [3]

  • Question by: Roger Evans
  • Meeting date: 21 March 2007
It usually looks like a lot more than that when operations are carried out on the bendy buses in central London.

So if he did come up with that plan, you would not automatically say no, despite having told us that you had ruled it out before?
