Austerity: overstretching our A&E departments
Accident and Emergency Departments are the frontline of our much-treasured NHS. They are open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week and demand on this service is rising.
In 2017/18, there were 4.2 million admissions to A&Es in London, up from four million the year before. Londoners want to know that if they need emergency care, they’ll get the right treatment, quickly. And NHS staff deserve a work environment that supports them.
Years of Government under-investment in the NHS have seriously impacted on standards. If we’re to turn this situation around, we must reverse austerity across our public services.
