In addition to our usual work activities, which are mainly in London with other local partners, this week some of our work is taking us a bit further afield.
Stockholm Resilience
We hosted a very interesting and productive visit from colleagues working with the Stockholm Resilience Region in Sweden. Their work is based around a wide ranging collection of agencies, similar to our multi agency partnerships in London.
The Scottish Government
Our colleague Matthew is currently in Dundee discussing the Anytown project with some of our Scottish Government counterparts.
Orlando nightclub shootings
Our thoughts are with the victims and everyone affected by this tragic incident. In London, there was a vigil in Old Compton Street on 13 June for the Orlando victims.
Weather and flooding
Met Office
There are currently (correct as at 16 June 2016) two Yellow weather warnings of rain in force for London, with scattered heavy slow moving downpours expected on Thursday 16 and Friday 17 June. This heavy rain may cause some surface water flooding and may disrupt transport services.
Visit the Met office website for all weather Alerts and Warnings.
The rain forecast for Friday will ease during Saturday, and eventually lead to a dry, sunny Sunday. Check the Met Office site for a detailed weekend weather forecast.
Environment Agency
There are currently 5 flood alerts in force for London. There are currently no flood warnings in place for London.
The Live EA Flood Warnings Map has up to date information on river and tidal flooding.
Air Pollution
Air pollution levels are forecast to be Low.
Health
It may seem ironic to think about a heatwave during the wet weather currently in London. However we’re keen to help you to prepare in advance for the possibility of any hot weather we may have later in the summer.
Very high temperatures can bring health risks to several groups, particularly the very young, older people and people with heart or breathing problems. Read this advice on how to stay safe.
Transport
Transport for London
On Saturday 18 June, parts of Central London will be particularly busy as various events and demonstrations are taking place. This will affect some bus routes, which may either be diverted or stop short of their destination between 0700 and 1630 on that day.
Roads will also be very busy. TfL advise drivers to seek alternative routes and say that the Tube is the best way to get around Central London on Saturday. Read this TfL information about the affected roads and bus routes to plan your journey in advance.
This weekend there’s planned part closures on the Circle, District, Hammersmith & City, Metropolitan, DLR and London Overground lines.
