Background
Priorities
The Mayor’s budget sets out how he will fund his priorities and continue to build a fairer, safer and greener London for everyone. He wants London to be a place where all can thrive.
This includes:
- building homes Londoners can afford
- making London safer
- boosting the economy
- supporting Londoners with the cost of living, and
- cleaning up our air
How the budget works
The budget funds the Greater London Authority (GLA), London Assembly and wider GLA Group. This includes:
- Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (oversees work of the Met Police)
- Transport for London
- London Fire Commissioner and the London Fire Brigade
- London Legacy Development Corporation (leads on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park)
- Old Oak & Royal Park Development Corporation (regenerating Old Oak Opportunity area)
Have your say
Before the Mayor takes any final decisions in his budget, we would love to know what you think. Please tell us about your priorities for London in the year ahead.
We will share your feedback with the Mayor’s Office, Assembly Members and our Group Finance team.
Your views will feed into the final draft budget. This is due to be published by 18 February.
The Mayor will then answer the London Assembly’s questions about his final draft budget at a public meeting on 26 February.
Council tax
The budget also sets out how much Londoners will pay for the Mayor’s part of council tax. This is called a ‘precept’. It helps to fund services from City Hall and the GLA Group.
The Mayor will propose next year's precept in January 2026, once the government have published the rules for council tax in 2026-27.
The Mayor's budget
The annual budget is at the centre of how the Mayor exercises his authority.
Through it, the Mayor ensures there is a sound financial plan to deliver his priorities within the resources that are available to the GLA (Greater London Authority) Group.
