Hello!

Please can they stop putting metal benches in parks and about in London. Metal benches are FREEZING to sit on in the autumn, winter and early spring and also very wet!!! Please put only wooden benches about in parks and along the pavements as they absorb water, are much warmer to sit on and look nicer.

There could also be covered benches in parks and along pavements for when it rains and people get stuck in the park or out somewhere with nowhere to sit when it starts pouring down and we have to wait for 15-20 minutes until the rain stops.

Hello!

It would be nice if all town centres had indoor heated seating areas and picnic tables where people could sit and eat whatever they wanted for lunch. These areas would ideally have nice chairs/armchairs and tables and plants and glass roofs for natural light. They could also have a mat for children to sit and play and maybe even some giant statues of animals sitting at one end of the tables to make eating out more fun.

I would like there to be nice indoor heated areas in ALL town centres in London for people to sit and eat their packed lunch or meal deals. Currently in Ealing Broadway for example, there is no place to sit and eat a meal deal bought in Tesco or Sainsburys or a packed lunch at a table in an indoor heated area. This means one is either forced to sit outside in the cold throughout the autumn, winter and spring to eat when it is very cold and rainy, or one is forced to purchase expensive food that they do not necessarily want to eat in a cafe or restaurant.

The Ealing Broadway centre could have double doors installed at the end of every corridor and a glass roof in the small square outside the library and there could be tables and chairs put about there for people to sit and eat what they have purchased from the shops. It would be nice if there were picnic tables about so that families and friends could sit and eat together properly around a table when visiting the town centres. It is always nicer to eat in company. I am sure there are other town centres that would also benefit from having some glass roofs and doors and proper tables installed to create other indoor heated eating areas with natural light. eg Camden!

In a rainy country like England there really ought to be nice indoor, heated spaces with picnic tables for people to sit and relax in in all the town centres. It is important for there to be plants and glass roofs to help everyone get enough vitamin D and sunlight and have a more pleasant eating experience.

"Going out there" is not that simple because lonely people often are too embarrassed to admit that they have a loneliness problem and isolate themselves more.
The government could do something against loneliness by creating more connectivity opportunities/creating support communities/borough activities/addressing loneliness as a normal human problem instead of making it seem like something is wrong with that person/ using communication to build awareness and create a supportive environment. This could also improve mental health problems.

This might seem small, but there is a nefarious and growing trend of restaurants adding service charge to bills. Some are even doing it to make up for the fact they don't pay their staff a living wage, but many do it just to line the pockets of management. This is a horrible, underhanded, American-style practice that must be stopped. Just look on Reddit r/London and you will find threads and threads of Londoners being negatively impacted - both as consumers and as staff - by this despicable trend. Force restaurants to pay their staff a living wage and do not allow them to add any "discretionary" charges to the bill.

Children in Council Housing/ disadvantanged etc should have opportunities to earn money/ cash for helpful jobs in community centres, and shops etc. This could help with youth crime and assist childrena nd young people in poverty/ helping them to be moulded for future/ ambitions. Also more activity in school assemblies and mentor opportunities for everyone through mainstream/ wide reach. And for communities to be more connected through groups/ forums on social media/ internet and community events like parties and helping community.

Your idea sounds a bit more formal - but a useful idea to connect with many young people through a meaningful exchange. I have worked with volunteers in the past  and met so many interesting people with a whole spectrum of motivations. There were of course a significant number of others who could not undeerstand working for nothing and who would have become much more interested if there was even a token payments of some kind or similar arrangement amounting to something for something.

The Mayor is obviously lining his pockets to get rid of the debt he has or he would not be charging 12.50 (pay to pollute) which people with deep pockets will pay only those with older cars and pensioners will be affected and independent businesses will go out of business is he so rich that he thinks 12.50 is like 10p to go down the road and do shopping in the cost crisis what planet does he come from I just wish he would take his ULEZ friendly rocket and go back. Everything has been so ill thought out is he even educated in the way money works ? I feel he is jailor and we are the prisoners.

One in four adults is a Carer , an unpaid Carer of an ill, disabled or otherwise disadvantaged person from their family or who is a close friend. Tens of thousands of people get too little help, cut their hours or stop working. Without support, in the end they often end up needing to be supported themselves, financially through benefits, emotionally through therapy or medically if they become ill through stress.

How big does this have to get before it becomes a priority - a huge noise - a scandal that we can't help and through this, all be richer in our personal lives and healthier and more able to sustain jobs.

Family policies - compassion - forward thinking. We need all of our governments to show more care, see the bigger picture and plan for a decent way forwards. Our Mayor, can get behind this and bring about real change, for London and in the end for everyone in the country..

Lets get it on.

The expansion of ULEZ is estimated will generate c.£200M in its first year and this will fall to zero over  4 years in 2027 ( ref - https://www.times-series.co.uk/news/23229801.ulez-expansion-2023-create-300m-first-year-0-2027/). So we can...

So we can estimate that it will earn in total 200M + 150M + 100M + 50M = £500.

This might be only £3.7M per borough per annum additional spending power.

The new ULEZ scheme will not really be raking it in. But millions of people will live longer and fewer people will suffer chronic pollution and our health services will benefit - and in the meantime electric cars will get cheaper and there a good chance that public transport gets better.

When will the Mayor start marshalling his thoughts to improve the lives of Carers in London to support them to escape poverty and isolation? Supporting the 10's of thousands in London who are caring for more than 20 hours per week and often more than 50 hours will enable many of them to return to work or increase their hours. Earning more to escape poverty, feel empowered and contribute to their communities like most others..

If only 7,000 people in each borough in London (conservative est.) were able to wokr an extra 20 hours per week - it could easily generate more than £4.8billion for the Lonodon economy per annum, as well as healthier happier people and a better 'working' city.

Compare that to the ULEZ expansion and which do you think should be getting talked about?

Where is the accountability?

We need a thorough audit of the mayor's office!

Please make all underground stations accessible to all. For example Ruislip station. It would improve the lives of wheelchair users greatly.

I agree but it's not just wheelchair users. There are all sorts of disabilities that aren't properly catered for. Things are improving though.

ULEZ, I think the ulez expansion should give people like me who cannot afford to suddenly dump their well looked after car and get in debt for a new car should be given more consideration as I am disabled but not wheelchair bound but need my car as others do and am being forced out of it I feel frightened and worried as I have a blue badge but my car has not been modified and I dont have the money for what is being proposed. What does the mayor want me to do as I am a pensioner who needs to travel to hospital with disabilities which I would find difficult on transport, I have looked at all the links but am feeling very confused and worried, am I supposed to go away and die??

Good afternoon Talk London. The comments provided by this Community Member highlight the challenges of improving the environment and reducing emissions. Has the Mayors Office considered fairer, equitable systems, strategies that encouraged all car users or commuters to seek and use alternatives might seem fairer. The current system does not impact those with money to upgrade to a vehicle or pay the ULEZ charge without thinking. Existing zones have done little to reduce congestion, roads just seem jammed with compliant cars! Would it not be feasible to consider an equitable system that nudged everyone, even compliant drivers consider whether a journey by car (even if electric is really necessary). If everyone registered driver had a certain number of ULEZ credits a month paying once they reached, or used their quota it might help change habits and reduce both congestion and emissions.
