Dumb Labour Councils
My local neighbourhood (London W4) has been totally wrecked by the completely unsupported changes (such as LTNs, rushed-through cycle lanes and - possibly most unbelievable of all - cycle ‘Zebra Crossings’, which just aren’t used) imposed by the two Labour ‘local’ councils - Hounslow and Ealing. How can those who actually live in the area (as opposed to non-accountable councillors who all live 4-5 miles away) take back control of the area that we love so much, but which is being ruined by those who simply don’t care?

I completely concur - these changes have all been made without the slightest consideration for those who either cannot or do not cycle - the disabled, young children, older people, those carrying heavy loads (especially delivery drivers), carers and those who are / feel vulnerable have all been completely ignored. I walk almost everywhere and feel that my non-polluting / healthy needs have completely been 'thrown in the bin' by both the local Labour councils and TfL - even our local (Labour) MP has spoken out against the changes!

They need to consider in their designs and decisions: disabled people and those that cannot cycle, women with children who lead busy lives, small...

They need to consider in their designs and decisions: disabled people and those that cannot cycle, women with children who lead busy lives, small businesses , High street residents who now have more traffic fumes to deal with due to traffic jams, delivery personnel and the cost to medium sized businesses, women who feel threatened without the safety of a car, access to amenities like hospitals and schools. They should review their designs and take all of the above into consideration to make a fairer place to live for all and reduce tension in the community.

Community Member 4 years agoI understand some of the concerns raised here about inappropriate road closures without proper consultation. But it isn’t just Labour councils. Westminster is Conservative and has done just the same.
