This is your chance to put your question to the Mayor, Sadiq Khan and Members of the London Assembly about their current plans, priorities and policies for the capital, at the first ever People’s Question Time Online, on 12 November 2020, 7pm - 9pm.
The Mayor is working to:
-
support London’s businesses through the pandemic and support economic recovery
-
ensure all Londoners can benefit from the city’s prosperity whilst promoting London as the best city to visit, invest and study in
-
provide guidance and tailored support to London’s small and medium-sized enterprises
-
provide advice and guidance to London’s businesses
-
support London’s communities and their entitlement to fair pay and working conditions, and promote a diverse workspace across the board.
The London Assembly is a 25-member elected body that holds the Mayor to account and investigates issues that matter to Londoners.
What would you ask them about the economy?
Please keep your question short, relevant and constructive. If another member has already asked a similar question to the one you were going to ask, you can show your support by commenting on that question.
You can submit your question until midnight on Sunday 1 November. Read more about the shortlist process in the FAQs.
The discussion ran from 05 October 2020 - 02 November 2020

No use having a degree and saying " I'm qualified in xyz therefore I'm not going to do anything else" London and the Government should think more of apprenticeships rather than banging on that degrees are better for the economy.

Many are wasting their time, applying for jobs, resulting in businesses responding with "unfortunaly". Some between the ages of 16-18, are frustrated due to the coincidence of COVID-19 becoming an issue in such a crucial stage in their lives.

Show full commenteScooters are safer way to commute than public transport during the pandemic. Also, they can be taken inside, unlike bicycles (as scooters need smaller space). I know that shared eScooters are legal now. But there is none available. Plus shared bicycles/scooters increase the risk of covid transmission.
Do you agree that, wearing a helmet and bicycle lights, it is safe to ride eScooters when following same rules like cyclists have to follow?
What does prevent issuing the proper rules for eScooters that would help people to protect the NHS?
If rules to insure those shared ones could be created why can't you issue the rules for private ownership?

Show full commentThe weekend economy and the mid-week evening economy, including churches and evening classes, are being decimated by your draconian rules against the use of private cars in the Congestion Charge Zone and the Ultra Low Emission Zone at those times. When will this economic sector get its life back? When will you lift the private car travel restrictions that are effectively closing down this economy?

Show full commentBy shutting or narrowing all the main and secondry roads and parking spaces , increasing all ulez and congestion charges , how does the mayor expect the capital to recover , instead its swarming with gangs and crime and un licenced flea ridden pedicabs with foreign music blairing out around Oxford street and resedential neighbourhoods day and all night. Allowing homeless and stateless tent comunities to freely devellop on Park lane central reservation and other grassy areas with the human waste and dust bin diving culture operated by these people. This mayor is operating the same swamp tactics as Nancy Pelosi in the US turning the jewl in Londons crown into a swamp capital .
Who but other lawless drifters would find this City attractive , certainly no one with a nice car having to pay near £50 to 100 pounds to just get to the BANKRUPT SHOPS

Show full commentQuestion...How is the Mayor going to tackle & criminalise local councils, such as London borough Hounslow...By holding them to account for Commiting fraud with tax payers finances...Example..CCTV / Enforcement officers in uniforms operating for pure revenue / stealth by fraud, against public & local residents...Issuing motorists with PCN with hidden CCTV, plus poor / incorrect / deceiving road signage to implement entrapment against motorists...This excercise is canceretic excercise to commit internal town hall fraud by hidden stealth
Hounslow council management / CEOs, continue to create a hostile environment during Covad19, using spying techniques by discriminant tactics, in order to create revenue by corruption / deceit & fraud...Operating in a new town hall during years of Austerity...Selling off old Civic Centre (Lampton road) to greedy "scam" property developers...Building with cheap cladding materials by breaching Health & safety regulations...Examples Of. (Grenfell Towers) in the making ...Greedy / corrupt landlords buying newly built expensive multy occupancy properties ..Charging high rents in controlling the housing market...No longer having properties for Social housing, or rent to buy housing schemes. London Mayor. (Sadiq Khan) continues, by allowing / promoting local london councils to continue this fraud against local residents
Many already facing homelessness, due to high rents plus increses in council taxes during COVAD19..NO MPs /Councillors or political figures have lost wages / bonuses, or expenses with their business during lockdown..Self awardeding themselves each with 10K pay rises while others are faced with Bankruptcy..Mayor must expose this to investigate & bring to book these corrupt actons taking place by many local councils, including Hounslow Council & their management...Money laundering their Ill gotten gains!

Show full commentDoes the Mayor accept that all the new lane closures, bus lane extensions and cycle lanes across London, have caused major traffic jams, an increase in pollution and general chaos? These, combined with a punative increase in the Congestion Charge hours, are damaging the environment and destroying businesses already struggling with Covid restrictions. Will he review these catastrophic changes to try and get London moving again?

Show full commentRecent events have caused thousands of civic and business leaders to call for a redesign of our economic system that uses the best of capitalism (while leaving the worst behind) to create communities and cities that are fully inclusive, more innovative, and increase economic vibrancy, while also becoming more resilient, and economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable for ALL residents.
Countries and cities around the world are starting to use politically agnostic, community-based, stakeholder capitalism driven, economic models, that use business, economics, and empowerment to drive positive impact for EVERY civic and private stakeholder segment, plus ALL residents. They are also designed so that every resident with the opportunity to participate in, and personally benefit from, the creation of fully inclusive and more resilient communities.
"Empowered inclusion equates to greater resiliency, and greater resiliency equates to a sustainable future"
When we see quotes like the one below, the quesiton becomes has London adopted such a model, and if not, why not?
"As the world starts to talk about developing new community based economic systems using inclusive capitalism, In Place Impact has already done it. Furthermore, they have tested their model of Impact Economics for almost a decade, proven that it works, and are giving 6,000 people the opportunity to deploy it in their own communities"

Show full commentI'm a freelancer live sound engineer. Since lockdown live events workers have not been able to work because venues closed or social distancing doesn't allow venues to reopen at full capacity without major financial loss. A lot of us didn't get any financial help at all, some of us "retrained" and are doing other jobs after years of sacrifices to build particular skills that have made the live events industry successful. Majority of us are struggling and covered in debts. London has always been the Mecca of live events and culture, thanks to the live events workers the city and UK has benefited from an £84million worth industry for years. The situation is dramatic and the little help that the government gave us in the last months is not enough to keep us going. 600.000 and counting jobs are at risk. There's a huge risk that when and if live events will come back there won't be any skilled workers left. If culture workers are not helped culture will not survive. Can the Mayor of London and the Night Czar help us? We also kindly ask the Mayor of London to meet a delegation us so we can explain how difficult the situation is. Thanks in advance.

Show full commentThe Mayor says he wants to boost the economy but how does he think this is possible when he sees private transport as something that needs to be eliminated yet public transport is not sufficient to meet the needs of many working people. TFL do their best to make the roads clogged with congestion by inappropriate traffic light gazing, the move to 24hr bus lanes and reduced road space to five way for under used cycle lanes. The economy will never be boosted as long as it is nigh on impossible to drive in london
