Have you seen any performances and pieces of art on London's public spaces?

London’s public spaces welcome many performances and pieces of art throughout the year, including the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square, Lumiere London and other artworks in public spaces, transport and parks.

Have you seen any? What are your favourites? What would you like to see more of, or less of?

I'd love to see public parks open all summer to the public, and not closed/privatised to fee paying, walled off festivals.

Movements such as those in Finsbury Park, and Brockwell Park show that the local community really value the ad-hoc culture in their parks, of informal unexpected conversations, green and calming surroundings, and hate seeing their parks lost to commercial festivals.

We have some amazing purpose built arenas and concert venues in London, so lets not take business away from them whilst taking parks away from their communities.

I am appalled at the attempts by major property owners to dramatically increase the number and size of commercial events in public green spaces and garden squares. London desperately needs more tranquil green spaces, not to have existing ones turned into events venues. A recent study showed the health benefits of green spaces, and the huge consequent value in terms of NHS and other savings.  Why on earth is the London Mayor supporting the commercialisation of green spaces?

Yes this is true.  I love our tranquil green spaces.  Also love art in public spaces so events should be held in other places eg car parks (and make street parking free of charge during the event), streets and squares.

Thanks everyone for sharing your favourites.

How many of you have visited the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stafford since the 2012 Games? What did you think of the public art and performances available there?

Are there any other parts of London that are particularly good for public art?

The London Gay Symphonic winds performs free summer bandstand concerts throughout the boroughs in addition to a regular concert season. Concerts in parks are a great way to enjoy nature and the arts at once.

London is MORE than just the Southbank and Shoreditch! I always feel that the west London green spaces are not utilised as much as they should be. Use the spaces or lose them to greedy developers. (Hounslow heath is a PRIME example). Its not like its lacking in diversity round here.....

Green spaces are used by plenty of people. Problem is to keep them free of commercial events.  Why does the Mayor not ensure that cultural events are taking place all over London, too much is concentrated in the centre.

Absolutely no events or venues should disturb the peace of the Royal Parks, its gardens, green spaces or wild spaces. Pop concerts in Hyde Park and the like are a sacrilege, as are fairgrounds, fetes and anything else that tramples and disturbs our too rare green spaces. Wild and noisy disturbances should be remote from all quiet spaces and neighbourhoods.

Absolutely!  The eastern end of Hyde Park is closed off from public access for months on end, because of the summer concerts, the Winter Wonderland, and the months it takes the grass to recover afterwards.  Less able residents who cannot walk all that far have to use Grosvenor Square instead, but now this is being turned into an events venue as well.

We did not attend the Christmas Horse show this year (Two young children very disappointed) because of concerns over safety in London. We trawl the net and find things to do in and around Kent and Sussex

I am disappointed that the survey seemed to focus on "street" culture (skateboarding as culture? lol), mostly ignoring more refined forms of art such as e.g. classical music. We should encourage people to develop more refined taste, not pander to the lowest common denominator. With the outburst of gang crime, we should also not promote the art and behaviour which channels gang values (e.g. graffiti).

Be interesting to know the 'numbers' and whether it could have been more popularised - maps were not great for finding venues

Not so good for any actual real nightingales, of course. Lights at night disturbs wildlife. That aside, Lumiere I thought was a mixed bag - some really wonderful items and some not up to London standards.

Thanks everyone for sharing your views. Some of you have mentioned the river Thames and Southbank.

The draft Culture Strategy highlights events on the River like the Totally Thames Festival or the proposal to light London’s bridges (http://illuminatedriver.london/)? What do you think? How do you use the Thames?

One such hub on the River is the Southbank – is this somewhere you visit? What do you like about it? If not, why not?

Other hubs included the Royal Docks and London Riverside – have you been to these places? Or elsewhere? What did you like or dislike about these places?

We don't need to spend culture money lighting the bridges; they're already attractions.

To those who object to ticketed events in public parks, please come to the Ealing festivals which occupy a small part of Walpole Park each June. We get jazz, folk, comedy, beer ... all very popular, affordable, and an excellent use of our public space.

Music in public places is fine, but there's insufficient policing of volume levels. I've been deafened in Tube stations, in Waterloo station, and worst of all at Oxford Circus. What if we don't WANT to be bombarded with that music?

Outdoor free festivals and gigs, sculpture, performance... lots. I also dislike public spaces being gated and ticketed. Commons are for everyone.

I've really enjoyed sculpture trails in the past. They give a structure to outings and encourage you to go somewhere new. Spotted a new one in city of London yesterday.

I live on top of Battersea Park and, as well as the wonderful statues, it has a free art gallery and many free events. I am, however, dismayed by the price of tickets to some events, including the Fireworks which are great but expensive.

Also love the artwork by Lorenzo Quinn on Millbank as well as that of Eduardo Paolozzi nr Euston, outside the British Library and the mosaic at Tottenham Ct Rd tube station. Sometime just walking around different areas in London you can discover an artwork or beautiful building you never knew existed There are so many cultural surprises. It is important not to let these areas become neglected.

It is all about the outdoor space. Wandering around in public spaces, taking photos and just enjoying the creative look of a city like London is what visits love the most rather then the indoor entertainment. We need to embrace the unique traditional make up of London and enliven the public areas that are completely void of any kind of art and cultural entertainment.

Many of our London subways are just dull, gloomy and dirty.

Even The Southbank, a hugely popular area with visitors yet none of the the footbridges, tunnels, railway stations nearby have any kind of art applied to them that would powerfully engage and promote the passion for culture which the Southbank has to offer, which I believe is a missed opportunity.

More involvement is necessary but there are clearly huge vested interests - property developers - involved who get too much profit while minimising their ongoing cultural contributions.
The towering cranes all along the River are inescapable symbols of the money chasing riverview properties that should be shared openly with visitors, local and international.

I remember the Elephant event some years back which caused great excitement and brought people together in our streets.
The arts events in parks during the London Olympics were fabulous and I was lucky enough to perform in some of them. Free and inclusive.
