Address challenges with technology
What are the most important challenges facing London that we should address with technology?
New technologies can change the way we live, work and communicate. They will also help London better manage the pressures of its growing population.
What are the most important challenges facing the city that we should address with technology? An example could be air pollution monitors to map the most polluted roads.

Community Member 7 years agoI expect City Hall is bending to pressure from tech companies to spend our taxes on new technology we don't really need.

At the moment the main providers, BT and Virgin give an poor service.
So much technology can be is arising from the internet now, that makes the lives of many people alot easier.

Show full commentaddress technologies are very important because they can speed up assistance. Every street should be on the first streetlight on the left side of the plate with the digital number of this street. Searching on the Internet of this street, we only punch in the number. No complex codes or additional characters. numbers that are easier to find.Be after inserting the vendor's code, it often happens because, for example ... couriers call for information several times because they did not go to the code where they are expected. This takes a lot of time.

Deliveroo can't keep to the roads and cycle lanes but insist on speeding about on the pavements. Some of them ride without holding onto the handlebars, either to show off or because they're operating the phone with both hands. They speed through red lights. Many don't wear a helmet...I feel powerless because there is no regulation. No enforcement. Please can people just learn to cook?

Sop moveslije increasing congestion charge are like turning up at an earthquake with a dustpan and brush!
Doesn't this shameful inaction make the powers that be the mass murderers?

Show full commentTechnology should be applied to ensure we have access to realtime information and effective communication about all matters relating to living in and visiting the city. There should be some kind of shared vision for what London is attempting to achieve in terms of health, welfare, education, employment, leisure and environment and should use big data to track our progress towards short, medium and long term goals to achieve that.

Show full commentHi, I feel that it would be better to tackle the problem of Air Pollution at source, by being involved in taking forwards Hydrogen innovation.
I have a concept for a Hydrogen Internal Combustion Steam Turbine-generator design to produce electricity on board EVs but also will allow houses to go Off-grid and become Zero emissions. The concept is covered in three UK Patent Applications.
In addition I have been joined by a US company who have developed H2 production system for On Board the EV H2 Fuel production. This is at working prototype stage but on road/track trials did not work out as the movement of the vehicle caused Air Impurities which blocked the Fuel Cell. This will not be a problem for combustion.
We are looking for funding and at the same time planning a Crowd Fund Bid to cover the cost of initial modeling of the engine at £100,000. Should that indicate the engine will be viable then a second stage funding to cover developing the engine working prototype to proof of concept along with the Hydrogen on board the EVs fuel system.
This could lead to Affordable H2 Zero emissions EVs of all sizes. It will also lead to H2 Zero Emissions Off-grid Houses.
We invite interested parties to make contact and arrange a demonstration of the Hydrogen production system. One thing has become clear, there are certain people who do not want this to happen and have first stifled then blocked this Hydrogen concept simply because it will make several petrol engine Low-carbon developments obsolete.
Please feel free to contact me and check out my activity on Linked In.

If hydrogen leaks it dissipates upwards rapidly because it is lighter than Air, because of this there is difficulty in the correct mix of hydrogen to oxygen for combustion to take place. On the other hand hydrocarbons are heavier and will form the right mixture with oxygen far more easily.
Petrol being a liquid falls to the ground and forms a puddle/pool which gives off vapour which readily forms a flammable mix instantly ignited by a small spark.
In the opinion of many experts Hydrogen has a better safety aspect for EVs and individual house H2 systems or H2 EVs powered houses would be far safer than present petrol and Gas. They would be Zero emissions in use, which is imperative.

Show full commentFamilies need signposting and access to childcare and family services that allow them to filter for both universal and specialised needs.
Hard to believe there is still no way to search across Borough borders for family services, activities and facilities, despite this being a statutory duty on London Boroughs since 2006, and incredibly it is not possible to search for, discover and access services that cater for specific disabled needs, as set out in the original Disability Discrimination Act more than 23 years ago(!).
We are trying to rectify this and would relish a conversation the the Mayor/GLA to get this moving forward quickly so that London families can thrive irrespective of their situation, background or condition.

Show full commentPollution is the big one - I cycle everywhere and suffer from what I call 'London cough' because of the poor air quality. Rather than monitoring air quality, let's use technology to reduce the number of polluting vehicles. And a big part of that is deliveries both to businesses and homes - technology can be used to make deliveries more efficient - fewer half empty vans, for example, consolidation centres, priority for electric delivery vehicles that sort of thing.
Show less of commentWhile technology is mostly good I do worry about data collection and what that data is being used for and who has access to it. I know there is a price to pay for the 'free stuff' but better communication about what data is collected and what it is used for is needed.

Private and governmental organisations have shown a complete lack of care in data collection and care over recent years and the obsessive need to collect and store such information should be avoided and discouraged at all costs. For all the data already 'out there' we still have congestion, pollution, bad local management of our services, and poor security. As a septuagenarian, I have seen little improvement in my life by the collection of all this data. Any surveys I have taken part in show no improvement to any aspects of our day to day living.
