A recent commitment response from the Met Commissioner confirms they currently estimate their long-term estates ambition could require more than £1 billion over a number of years. MPS Budget

  • Reference: 2024/4096
  • Question by: Gareth Roberts
  • Meeting date: 19 December 2024
Earmarked reserves of £303.9m were available from 1 April 2024, and the budget approved in March 2024 included the proposed use of reserves totalling £155.7m. There has been a significant increase in the planned use of earmarked reserves of £30.5m and the general fund reserve is forecast to remain at £66.6m. This is a significant reduction in reserves levels. Is the projected reserves level sufficient to tackle unforeseen events like the ones we have seen in the last few years such as the cost of living crisis and the significant increase in protests across the capital?

In a response to a question at the September meeting of the London Assembly’s Environment Committee, the Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy said that: “London’s government wants to see more ambitious devolution agreements, with devolution of funding streams and activity which currently sit under national government’s control. This includes a single settlement for skills and employment, greater influence over 16-18 technical skills and the new Growth and Skills Levy, and data sharing, and similar approaches to net zero funding as seen in Trailblazer deeper devolution deals.” What conversations have you had with the new Government to provide you with...
