On 14 May 2022 the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) spoke to delivery drivers on Ashwin Street and Kingsland High Street as part of Operation Vespa, targeting moped-related crime. Disorder broke out, resulting in footage showing an officer striking a man on the ground which was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). There did not appear to be any attempts made by the police to de-escalate the situation. Why was such a disproportionate amount of force used by the MPS in what was an anti-social behaviour operation?
