Vision Zero: Evidence-led Bus Safety Policy

  • Reference: 2024/0772
  • Question by: Neil Garratt
  • Meeting date: 22 February 2024
In your response to question 2023/4113, you stated: "TfL aims to produce safety data in the most cost-effective way and collects a wide range of data which it uses to track performance and provide insights to support our Vision Zero ambitions. However, TfL and the associated agencies you have referred to, including the Metropolitan Police Service and individual bus company human resources teams, have a number of disparate systems and so it is not always possible to automatically integrate information in the way that is requested." As Mayor and occupant of MOPAC, you oversee the Metropolitan Police Service. As TfL...

  • Meeting date: 22 February 2024
This time last year, I presented you with data from the ONS suggesting London has the highest start-up rate of new businesses in the country. I asked you to demonstrate, with data, what impact your policies have had on either business openings or closures. One year on and I still haven't seen that data. Can we have an update as soon as possible please?

Vision Zero: Ignorance about Power System used by Buses involved in Pedal Confusion Incidents

  • Reference: 2024/0770
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 22 February 2024
In your response to question 2023/3340, you stated that it 'would not be an appropriate use of public resources’ to extract and review data on the fuel/power type of buses involved in pedal confusion incidents. Given (a) the death of Melissa Burr (32) on 10 August 2021 in what was reported to be a pedal confusion incident involving an electric Route 507 Go-Ahead bus, (b) TfL's own data showing that 235 people have been injured in 262 pedal confusion incidents during the period April 2010 to January 2022 and, (c) TfL is transitioning the bus fleet to a technology with...

Bus Drivers prosecuted for Critically Injuring Pedestrians in Zebra Crossings, 1 Jan 2016 - 11 July 2023

  • Reference: 2024/0769
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 22 February 2024
In your response to question 2024/0179, you stated "for the 17 collisions which met TfL’s notification and investigation of major incidents (NIMI) criteria, where this information was available, TfL is not aware of any drivers being prosecuted.” Your response suggests that the 25 November 2016 bus crash where a Metroline bus working under contract for TfL critically injured a pedestrian walking in a pedestrian crossing and whose driver was convicted for 'careless driving’ for this incident did not meet TfL's notification and investigation of major incidents (NIMI) criteria (cf. questions 2018/1317, 2018/5146, 2019/6057). Is that correct?

  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 22 February 2024
Your much delayed response to question 2023/4704 did not answer my question: "for the period March 2020 to November 2023, how many bus workers have died from Covid-19?" Please will you answer my question, also including December 2023's data into my query's date range?

  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 22 February 2024
Based on your long-delayed response to question 2023/1355, would TfL not having “visibility” of its bus operators’ RIDDOR notifications be a violation of these companies' "contractual requirement that suppliers and contractors working on behalf of the GLA or TfL promptly notify their contract manager of any health and safety hazards that exist or may arise in connection with the performance of the service being delivered"?
