About the role

The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) is the organisation through which the Mayor of London exercises his role as the Police and Crime Commissioner for London and is led by the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime. MOPAC undertakes a broad range of statutory duties and works closely with the Mayor of London, Deputy Mayor and Metropolitan Police Service to deliver the priorities that will create safer London communities. 

MOPAC is recruiting for a Briefings Officer, an exciting role situated right in the heart of London Government. Working alongside the Briefings Lead, the Briefings Officer will lead on the production of high-quality briefings for the Mayor of London, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, and MOPAC’s CEO. The postholder will ensure these stakeholders are provided with high-quality and timely briefing materials and policy advice on policing and crime issues. The role will also support the Briefings Lead on the coordination of answers to Mayor’s Questions and other follow up commitments and actions to the London Assembly.   

This fast-paced role requires close working with colleagues from across MOPAC and the rest of City Hall to ensure MOPAC principals and the Mayor of London have the information they need. Excellent writing skills are essential for this role, as is a close attention to detail, organisational and planning skills, and the ability and confidence to work at pace. You should be politically astute and capable of anticipating the needs of the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime and the Mayor of London in a fast-moving and high-profile policy area. 

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants build experience and develop their career by working on the front line of London politics and Government. Development and training opportunities will be available.

  1. Please outline your experience in providing support to a senior stakeholder in a busy working environment.
  2. Please outline your experience providing high-quality briefing materials and explain how you ensure the effective communication of key messages within them.
  3. Please give an example of when you have had to organise your time effectively to manage competing deadlines and how you prioritised your workload.  

Selection Process

The process will involve an interview and assessment. Please note that interviews are currently planned to take place on week commencing 8 June.
