EIR - Hounslow West Station Car Park [April 2020]

Key information

Request reference number: MGLA170220-2957

Date of response:

Summary of request

I have received a letter from A2 Dominion, this is a company that builds residential developments. They have stated that the London Mayor wants to build 400+ new apartments on the grounds of what is currently Hounslow West tube station car park.

Using the freedom of information act I would like to see analysis the mayors office has carried out in relation to the following questions:

  1. The impact to local property prices? If the impact is negative, is the mayors office going to compensate?
  2. Impact on congestion? Hounslow West is already a very congested area, currently there are two other large scale developments in progress, so what type of impact will the third development have on congestion?
  3. The impact on crime? Hounslow West has some of the highest crime rates in the local area, will there be a direct correlation between more people and crime?
  4. Will these flats be for private buyers, or for council use?
  5. The impact on refuse and hygiene? Hounslow West is a popular commercial area full of shops and restaurants, keeping the area clean is already a challenge, how will more flats impact the hygiene of the area?
  6. Hounslow West tube station has one the largest car parks in London, many people travel from afar to make use of the parking facilities, what will the impact be on daily commuters for whom parking facilities are essential?
  7. Impact on land subsidence? needless to say under the tube station car park is the underground tube lines, building flats require large and deep foundations to be dug? can this have an impact on land subsidence for properties local to the car park? what measures will the mayors office take to ensure that there is no impact?
  8. Is the Mayors office working with the local council? a proposal of turning large parts of the area into one way streets was communicated by the local council, this proposal was made in an attempt and control the traffic, what impact will this new development have on the councils ambitions and planned works?
  9. Will the new flats provide car parking facilities?
  10. What measure will be taken to ensure that access to light for local resident and the properties is not impacted?
  11. What will be impact on residents during the construction of the development? e.g. road closure, access to facilities etc.
  12. My understanding is that the development proposes to move the stations entry\exit to the corner of Ambassadors Close? This a residential area, what will the impact be on residents if this was to happen?
  13. Hounslow West is a very busy bus terminal, approx. 10 - 12 different bus services stop in front of the tube station? how will this be managed in light of such a development moving ahead?
  14. Who will ensure that the development remains in a good state of repair?
  15. Will the mayor be offering schemes to local residents who wish to move due to the additional noise and congestion such a development will bring?

Certain parts of the car park is very close to local residents, Hounslow air quality is not good, what impact will the construction have on air quality of local residents?
