What will I be doing?

  • We need volunteers to support our Espacio Mama groups, which provide a fun space for mothers and young children to share the ups and downs of parenting. Volunteers play an integral role in caring for young children and supporting isolated parents.
  • Building relationships with parents: We would encourage you to get to know the parents that attend and to have informal conversations with them. Many of the pregnant women or mothers that come to PACT are isolated and without a network of support and we aim to fill this gap.
  • Engaging children in fun and stimulating play: The role involves helping to set up toys and fun activities for the toddlers attending our groups, and joining in with group singing and Storytime.
  • Supporting with translation: Volunteers help to bridge the language barrier and support parents and children as learn English.
  • Assisting in the kitchen: This role also involves serving tea and coffee, offering an important time to welcome parents to the group.
  • Working as a team

What impact will this have?

  • Volunteers help the group run smoothly. They support children to have a fun and enjoyable experience and allow parents attending the group to fully participate in the activities.
  • Volunteers play an integral role in promoting social integration, combating isolation, and improving the wellbeing of the parents that attend our groups.
  • Through building positive relationships within our community, volunteers directly help to empower parents and improve the health and development outcomes for young children in the area.
  • By providing a reliable human connection, volunteers help to engage a number of hard-to-reach communities who don't normally access health and social services in Southwark.
