What will I be doing?

  • Assisting the Scout Leader and local helpers to run safe and interesting activities for 11-14 year old girls and boys.
  • Helping run weekly Friday evening activities; games, cooking, art, discussions, local history, first aid etc.
Practising outdoor skills: map reading, navigation, knots, hand axe, outdoor cooking etc
  • Being prepared to learn more about Scouting and train in First Aid, Safeguarding and basic Safety. Eventually being a uniformed Scout Leader and part of a larger 'Group' team running activities for around 60 local children ages 6-15
  • Help suggest, organise and run occasional week end activities; trips out, hikes, camps, canoeing, cycling, and generally enjoying the countryside both around London and further afield.

What impact will this have?

  • Many of our Scouts will value your input in their lives for the rest of their life. Below is a message recently received from a Turkish mother who's son was with us from age 9 - 17 and is now at University.
  • Good afternoon. I just want to said thank you for all this yeas of care and support with S. He really enjoyed to be a scout and explorer. All what he has lived with you had a great impact in his day life. The lessons and experiences really gave to him a new horizon. S has improved a lot in his social skills and thinking to make better choices. Scouts are the greatest thing happened in his life. I am so grateful for he been part of your group. Thank you so much for your dedication and care with all those kids. Definitely make a difference. Regards. L S . S's mum.
  • Parents, especially single parents greatly value us 'being around' to listen and help guide their children through the whole challenge of growing up in Central London.

Commitment

  • We need a friendly woman or man, preferably with some experience of working with 10-14 year olds to step straight-in and help our existing Scout Leader both with Friday evening meetings and occasional camps, hikes and trips. Basic IT skills required and ability listen to and engage with teenagers, parents and local volunteers. Honesty, reliability and imagination essential.
  • We have about 15 boys and girls at present from a range of family backgrounds and aim to build to around 25. Some skills for Friday evenings might be art, drama, cooking, passing-on life skills and fun. Canoeing, climbing, hiking, camping and sheer madness would be helpful. We have camping and canoeing equipment. A good raincoat and walking boots a must.

What else do I need to know?

  • For more information, a chat or informal meet just call, text or email!

Expenses

  • It is not our general policy to pay travelling expenses as it is really helpful for you to live in the general neighbourhood.
We pay for training, special adventure equipment and towards your first uniform

Background checks

  • A DBS check is required
