What will I be doing?

  • If you have some expereince, great! If not our wonderful team will show you everything you need to know. There are a wide variety of garden tasks, from picking the weekly harvest to preparing plants and general garden maintenance.
  • Our team of volunteers follow organic, permaculture ‘no dig’ methods and are dedicated to growing organic produce which we use in our HomeFood Café.
  • Keeping the garden free of rubbish and debris.
  • Preparing the garden beds, watering, pulling weeds, planting, harvesting.
  • Maintaining compost piles.
  • Chatting to occasional visitors or groups who pass by, and making them aware of the Wimbledon Guild's work.
Harvest

Harvest

What impact will this have?

  • Our Community Garden is an urban oasis that is not only a soothing and delightful way to volunteer in your community, but also providing important services to Wimbledon Guild's work and the surrounding area.
  • As well as producing a weekly harvest of produce used in our HomeFood Café, the garden is heavily involved in partnerships with local schools, charities such as Mencap and Merton Home Tutoring Service, and Wimbledon Guild's own clients.
  • The bee-friendly flowers and wildflower meadow contribute to vital urban habitats for birds and insects.
  • The garden is an important part of the work we do and joining the team that makes it all possible is a satisfying and rewarding experience!
