Currently there are a limited number of air pollution monitors in London. Personal air pollution monitors can help improve accuracy by measuring more places and producing real-time data. It can also mean you as an individual can get better information and ensure that you avoid the most polluted places at the most polluted times.
Would you carry an air quality monitor when walking, cycling or driving? What concerns might you have about this?

I would love to have a personal air quality monitoring device so I can measure what I'm exposed to and adjust my regular route accordingly, and also to share this data with others. I have looked into existing devices on the market but they seem quite limited in their functionality, especially with regards to sharing and mapping data effectively.
For starters I would love to see an 'open platform' where people could use a standard pollution monitoring device and share data for others to use (including data from existing fixed monitoring stations). Obviously the benefits of this would be massively increased if the mayor's office funded road users to carry such devices but I think there's enough Londoners who would pay for such a device to get started if a decent sharing platform existed - people already do this with Strava etc to share cycle routes.

Show full commentI'd love to see these so called readings that require a serious pollution alert to see for myself what it is and what it should be as we are being totally led by what TFL are telling us. Look at the alleged 9600 deaths every year for example half of those are down to smoking related and ifger diseases and NOT down to vehicle pollution as TFL and SADIQ KHAN tell us - that's very misleading !!

Show full commentI agree - the reports are being misused - the major causes are smoking related not transport. Tighter restrictions on emisisons have been brought in over many years now - yes there is poultion from traffic but that is becasue it is so badly managed by TfL with reduced road space, random roadworks and crazy traffic light phasing. Keep the traffic moving for everyones' beneift!

Show full commentInstalling speed humps and 20mph speed limits increase pollution TFL did that. Diesel cars need to get hot in order for a a device in them to burn off extra bad pollutants.some petrol cars are the same. TFL are deliberately targeting motorbikes to charge thsm in the ULEZ Too while letting off black cabs how can this be right? How can they also charge bikes the same as cars when they themselves admit bikes are responsible for less than 1% of London's pollution yet cars are 16% responsible and buses 18%? How can this be justified why do TFL keep ignoring this question?? Its a disgrace how TFL continue go demonize bikes like this when in fact they are the answer to pollution in London.. .everyone agrees apart from khan and TFL..
