All must mean everybody
In outer London suburbs, public transport and cycling or walking may not be an option for some people. Disabled people, older people and people who use vehicles for work and want to shop on the way to work or when coming home from work, need adequate parking. Similarly, as the profile of high streets change, probably needing to accommodate more general commercial uses, not just retail, then customers who visit businesses for more than a few minutes need to be accommodated.
Any revamp of high streets should include adequate parking for these people, ideally, free for short periods and at a reasonable cost for longer periods. There should also be many more electric vehicle charging points where there are parking spaces so these do not need to be restricted to EVs and can be used by residents for overnight charging where they are unable to install charging points at their homes, which is the case for almost all planned new developments, where no parking is provided.

Community Member 4 years agoThis should also apply in Inner London. There are lots of people there too and the constant focus on limiting anything by cycling is severely hampering such issues for them too.

Show full commentRevamp needs to be redevelopment and redesign of the outer suburban high streets that consist of long strips of ugly shops along a busy main road. Shift the shops to a redesigned area off the main road, add a 'village green' or two, along with arts and leisure activities, work/eat hubs for self-employed and people working from home, community space, cafes, children's activity space. Make these for pedestrians, provide electric local transport for the less abled, and make sure the vehicle parking, bus stops and deliveries space is on the main road side of the high street, or at least separate from the 'town centre'.
