Discussions
We, London Fire Brigade, are proposing to make some changes to the way we work so that our services are more responsive to local needs and so we can adapt to the ever-changing needs of our city.
After responding to our consultation about our Community Risk Management Plan, is there anything else you want to add? Have we missed anything critical from our approach? What suggestions, concerns or worries do you have?
Please let us know in the discussion below, co-moderated by Talk London and London Fire Brigade.
The discussion ran from 02 September 2021 - 10 October 2021

Community Member 3 years agoI worry that consultations like this on a subject of this importance might result in dumbing down. The Fire brigade has one primary service, the clue is in the name. That is what it must do well.

So is "What is your gender?" with options 'Man', 'Woman' and 'Other'. And they don't ask for the sex of the person providing their views, which is surely far more important and one of the nine protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010. 'Gender' is not one of them.
'Gender' and similar terms rely on demeaning, regressive stereotypical notions of societal roles for the two sexes, concepts with which I'm sure they would not wish to be associated and concepts that, if relied upon, might compromise their Public Sector Equality Duty.

Show full commentDevelopers whose buildings require specialised equipment eg high rise requiring the highest reach appliances should be required to pay for the purchase of each appliance that would be required at their site. Most of these are probably sitting around doing nothing for the majority of the time and because there are so few and spread out the response time is too long when required and the money would be better spent elsewhere e.g prevention and inspections.

Community Member 3 years agoI totally agree that the LTNs and cycle lanes (which are definitely excessive) need to go to make London (- the London suburbs, at least) safe again by not impeding LFB vehicles (and LAS ambulances) ,

Community Member 3 years agoI don't agree. Clearly LTNs and cycle lanes make it harder. But equally clearly personal motor traffic must reduce and cycles must be part of that

Community Member 3 years agoHow do cycle lanes "create traffic"?
Traffic is created by people deciding to drive motor vehicles when, in many cases, they could use alternative transport methods.

Thousands of people are killed and seriously injured by motor vehicles every year, yet you complain about cyclists?

Community Member 3 years agoMain concerns are the TFL restrictions (Cycle lanes) which restrict all emergency vehicles from getting through to people in-need.
Unsafe cladding that is still left on many buildings

Community Member 3 years agoThe Fire Brigade is an essential service - it must be funded properly. Councils should play a greater role in ensuring all housing is as safe as possible by monitoring property owners' safety management better.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT, ESPECIALLY WHEN CONSIDERING FIRE RISK.
You had no option to identify a person as a leaseholder. Leaseholders do not own outright as your choice describes, whether or not they have a mortgage.
Show less of commentOur buildings, their external walls, roof and communal spaces belong to the freeholder and are manged by a management company .
We have little say regarding fire safety measures, we just have to pay their bills!
