Almost 1,300 of you took the survey and we received over 400 comments in our discussions.
City Hall’s Planning Team has been using your feedback (including what you told us in 2022) – alongside the views from stakeholders and other Londoners – to start shaping the next draft of the London Plan.
The London Plan is the strategic development plan for the capital. The Mayor is required to update this plan every five years. The next draft is due to be published for consultation in 2026.
On behalf of the London Plan team, I would like to thank all Talk Londoners who took the time to contribute to our discussion on Planning and Future London. It was important to understand better how fundamental issues such as lack of affordable housing, increased road congestion, and equal access to good jobs and green spaces affect your life.
Your invaluable submissions brought together deep insights into the challenges you experience. They gave us a steer to shape policies to address them and set a path towards helping London unlock its full potential as a thriving city for all.
What you told us:
- Build more quality low-cost homes and address housing affordability, specifically for the needs of local people.
- Support a high street revival with better air quality and spaces for people to sit and socialise.
- Improve energy efficiency across different housing types
- There are a range of different views about the best way to tackle issues like traffic congestion and how we get around the city.
- Ensure the benefits of economic success are shared equally, and increase accessibility to quality work for all, specifically for local people.
- Improve transport connectivity while meeting the accessibility needs of those less able or mobile.
- Enhance green space accessibility for all, ensuring that green spaces are biodiverse.
How City Hall’s Planning team used your feedback:
- To get better insights into the challenges of a lack of affordable housing and tackle the housing crisis. Your views served as a guidance and evidence on where and how we need to build more homes across London, including lower cost homes which are accessible for all.
- To get additional evidence to explore opportunities to strengthen the link between transport and housing at the borough level, helping to ease the congestion challenge while supporting higher ambitions for housing growth.
- To get insights into how we can meet housing needs of the population as a whole, while ensuring provision of flexible housing stock suitable for a wider range of people’s needs and changing household circumstances.
- To explore how we can continue opening up employment opportunities in larger scale developments to Londoners, including those who are unemployed.
What's next?
Ahead of the publication of the next draft London Plan, City Hall will call on Londoners and stakeholders again to share their views on the development of future policies.
