I don't see the point

As a black Londoner I think this would be a waste of time.

Trafalgar Sq is a tourist area -maybe hold smaller, rolling events in areas where there are already high concentrations of black people.

Londoners are really feeling the pinch at the moment -ordinary people are struggling to afford basic necessities so such a large-scale event would be in poor taste.

It could also stir up existing resentment / be over-policed.

The 'black community' isn't really that -black people are very diverse in the same way an English person is quite different to a Danish person.

Such an event could end up ignoring this fact so please do your research in advance.

Either way, 'art' showcased shouldn't be limited to modern music. It could be an opportunity to showcase more traditional art forms and opening the eyes of young people to the varied opportunities available to them as well promoting early-career artists.

It is true though that there is not one homogeneous Black community, but in fact Diverse groups of the many facers and elements of Blackdom.

Equally, tis true Trafalgar Square isn't the Best spot.....but it probably IS the most high Profile spot ....and perhaps better to have 1 BIG Celebration that can bring together the disparate Diaspora of the Blackdom of London, so that Others can learn, understand and celebrate our Diversity , as well as we ourselves!!

MOMM - Make our Money Matter collaborates to Build TRUST and TOGETHERNESS in Our CommUnity - please make contact with MrE? the Creativator and Chief Pot Stirrer to network and explore possibilities

There is SO Much that we can all do together by Thinking Broadly and both Outside and Inside of The Box!!....as there is Merit in the Old and the New, Young and Old etc - Equally Black People need Greater Representation in Many less Normal or Traditional Career Areas (Not just Creative).  Finding a way to show "People of African Descent or Origin" (POADoO) in the Widest sense and as Human Beings Capable and Involved in As MANY Different areas of Employ and Life across London (Those in Odd, Weird, Niche areas and Those SUCCESSFUL in again Little Publicized or Known areas, will do SO MUCH for both POADoO themselves, but also the 97% of other Denizens of the UK in seeing beyond our Blackness (as Hate or Racist Social Construct) to Understanding, Appreciating and Celebrating US as People, Individuals, Citizens and Brothers and Sisters with a Rightful Place on this OUR HOME Planet Earth and LONDON Our Home here on said Planet!!

I look forward to hearing back with Opportunity or Invitation to get involved Further and Into the Future.

Additionally as part of a Collab with 4 "Black" Film organisations, we would like to be involved an Showcase a New Opportunity for Black Films promotion and Launch in the UK - How can we do so here?

Thank you for your comments.

City Hall held the Africa on the Square event in Trafalgar Square between 2015-2018 then moved to a model of having smaller spotlights events across London under the name African in London. Following community consultation, City Hall will again, this year be delivering an event in Trafalgar Square for Black Communities. This event will be shaped with a Community Advisory Group and may include smaller events that take place across London in conjunction with the larger Trafalgar Square event to ensure greater engagement with Londoners.

City Hall is working to continue to support the Culture and Creative Industries in a Cost of Living Crisis. Organisations led byminority ethnicities, children andyoung people or low-incomegroups are twice as likely to be at riskofclosure within three months. Event initiatives such as this can help to support smaller organisations who may be at risk of closure do to financial difficulties.

This event will be shaped by an Advisory Group comprised of Londoners who represent the breadth of both the Culture and Creative Industries and of London’s diverse Black Communities.

There has been a lot of work since 2016 to improve trust and confidence in the Metropolitan Police. The centre piece of this work has been the Mayor’s Action Plan to improve Transparency, Accountability and Trust in Policing, which we published in November 2020. The Plan seeks to improve trust and confidence in the Met, reduce the gap in confidence that Black communities have in the police to do a good job compared to White Londoners, and to address community concerns about the disproportionality in the use of certain police powers affecting Black Londoners. But there is undoubtedly still much more work to do, and the Mayor has been clear about the far-reaching reforms urgently needed within the Met.
