Great idea. However, many music venues in the capital confiscate water bottles at the door, and worse still, don't necessarily recycle the ones they take from punters (this was a recent experience at the Borderline). Can the London Assembly do anything to persuade the venues to change their policy - or at least allow people to empty the bottles then take them in so they are not simply chucked into landfill?

I think this is an excellent idea from the point of view of recent research about plastic traces in bottled water and from the point of view of the impact of plastic bottles on the environment. Roll it out please!

Good idea but, as others have said, the water needs to be drinkable. The dispensers will also need to be tamper proof in order that those with malicious intent cannot interfere with it.

Really good idea - and crucial that it's put into effect as soon as possible. We need to get rid of single-use plastic water bottles asap for the sake of our planet

Greta idea - in theory. But has anyone considered health n hygiene? Someone's been sucking from the neck of that bottle that's now being held over the free water tap spout. Salmonella/ noro virus/ hepatitis, anyone???

Great idea - well overdue. Did know it was under discussion but not that there was progress so this is good to see. I remember enjoying free water fountains in Australia on a trip there and thinking we should have them too!

Sounds good to me but who is going to pay for the installation and maintenance?

Excellent idea - but even better would be the construction/refurbishment of fountains, because fountains illustrate the public rather than the private investment in water for fellow citizens.

I loved the idea and I went on to download the Refill app, only to find that i could not using unless i crated a login with facebook or by sharing private data with them. There is no explanation of how this data will be used or why the login is required! Besides GDPR legislation issues with the app, surely adding additional barriers to using this great new service is a bad idea that will affect its usage.

Hi Podvodo

Refill told us that they’re currently in the process of removing the need to create an account to view Refill Stations. You’ll still be able to log in if you want to earn rewards! More here: https://www.refill.org.uk/get-the-refill-app/

About time. Drinking fountains in parks should be reinstalled as well.
