Yes, I am aware of this scheme (also this is not new, Britain used to have public drinking Fountains) and I believe to be a very good idea, providing health and safety is completely applied and that free does mean free without the residents general household bills arising for this scheme, as living in London is becoming very expensive and that generates other costly problems to our society.

However, when it comes to water, I must confess that I prefer fizzy water!

We also need to look at how we can reuse the our plastics bottles effectively for the good of our environment. Personally, those that I possessed have been useful in building Bug Hotels particularly for butterflies and bees and for using to cover certain growing vegetables as it keeps them warm and deters to a degree slugs and snails, so maybe this is something that could be encouraged, particularly in all the London schools.

Excellent idea - this would be especially effective for tourists and in hot weather; it would, in any case, limit the use of plastic. You should try and roll it out in as many areas as possible - the more accessible it is the more routine...

This is a very useful and innovative idea. The water authorities should also play a role in providing water access points.
Great initiative by the Mayor and the London Assembly. Water for all who are in London. Other cities will follow.

This is the first I've heard of it. I think it's a brilliant idea and would definitely use it.

How do you ensure the source remains hygienic and safe to use? Unless I was sure I doubt that I would use the facility.

Brilliant idea. I can't think of any reason why London should not have this.
I am all for the war against plastic. But how is this going to work in practice?

I fully support this excellent idea. Refill points and free tap water in every cafe, restaurant, airport, train station...

Great idea, I hope a lot of businesses take it up.

It is an excellent idea. It would help reduce the production of plastic gaskets and therefore contribute a benefit to save the planet.

A really great idea. Can we have some refill points near Kensington High Street. What about a Community Scheme like the one they have in Richmond for public toilets?

It might even help with the pressure on NHS if it is more readily available, in addition to important issues of environment and consumerism.

Better late than never I suppose. On the way to becoming a civilised city again. Whatever next? Free public toilets again or is that a step too far for our wonderful city?

It is a great initiative if it stops the use of water fountains which use both plastic and electricity. To be honest I always carry my own metal water bottle (which I fill from my mains tap at home) with me if I'm going on a long journey and cannot see why others cannot do the same. I'm 64 and we didn;t drink water the way there appears to be an obsession with it now. We drank water at mealtimes - or if taking part in some extensive exercise. It will not stop the appalling numbers of soft drinks plastic bottles though and really there needs to be more of an effort to deal with this. Maybe the so-called sugar tax will do it. I also have always drunk tap water and find it perfectly palatable and think there is a lot of fuss about the 'taste' of London water. I remember reading once (maybe it is an old wives tale) that hard water is better for the heart than soft - be interesting to know.

I would like to use the refill app but create yet another user account, no thanks. Seems like many other people feel the same way too.

Hi Londonista

Refill told us that they're currently in the process of removing the need to create an account to view Refill Stations. You’ll still be able to log in if you want to earn rewards. More here: https://www.refill.org.uk/get-the-refill-app/

Great news!
There should be more places to refill bottles.
The money should be raised by increasing the congestion charge for motor vehicles.
