London has three distinct road charging schemes.
If you drive in London, you need to understand how they may affect you:
- Ultra-Low Emission Zone
- current area covered: up to (but not including) the North and South Circular roads
- who pays: only older, more polluting, light vehicles (cars, motorbikes and smaller vans)
- 2023 changes: zone expanding to all London boroughs on 29 August.
- Congestion Charge
- current area covered: central London only
- who pays: nearly all vehicles
- 2023 changes: none.
- Low Emission Zone
- current area covered: almost all of Greater London
- who pays: older, more polluting heavy vehicles (lorries, buses and some vans etc)
- 2023 changes: none.
