How does the scrappage scheme work?

In 2022, the Mayor introduced a £110m scrappage scheme to support the London-wide ULEZ expansion. On 4th August, the Mayor announced an additional £50m for the scheme, taking the total fund to £160m.

The scrappage scheme is currently open to Londoners on certain low income and disability benefits, Child Benefit, and to London registered businesses with less than 50 employees, sole traders and charities.

From Monday 21 August, the scrappage scheme will be expanding so that all Londoners with a non-compliant car or motorbike are eligible.

In addition, from Monday 21 August, small businesses (with under 50 employees) will be able to scrap up to three vans (from one).
