London has experienced numerous flooding incidents caused by heavy rain in recent months.
In early October, downpours caused disruption on London’s roads and transport network, while shops and offices in Knightsbridge were also affected. In early August, the capital faced 50 flooding incidents caused by heavy rain.
With the frequency and intensity of surface water flooding incidents likely to increase due to climate change, it is essential that the capital is prepared to deal adequately with the effects of severe weather.
The London Assembly Fire, Resilience and Emergency Planning Committee will meet tomorrow to discuss London’s Resilience and the London Fire Brigade’s preparedness and response to flooding. The guests are:
- David O’Neill MBE, Deputy Assistant Commissioner, London Fire Brigade
- John Hetherington, London Resilience
- Charlie Wood, London Area Director, Environment Agency
- Victoria Lawson, Chair, LEDNet (London Borough of Hounslow)
- Alex Nickson, Wastewater Systems Strategy Manager, Thames Water
- Lilli Matson, Chief, Safety, Health and Environment Officer, Transport for London
The meeting will take place on Thursday, 21 October 2021 from 10am, in the Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).
Media and members of the public are invited to attend. The meeting can also be watched live here.
