In the meantime, check out our FAQs for businesses and residents below.

Business and Residents FAQs

You can find out by looking at our pedestrian restriction map. We’ll update this map if there are any changes.

There are 3 event areas: Inner, Outer and Non. The times for each of these areas may differ, but we will notify you whether pedestrian restrictions come into effect from 2pm, 4pm, 5pm or 8pm.

On New Year’s Eve, access to the event footprint becomes restricted to vehicles and pedestrians in order to prepare for the event. To manage these restrictions we split the event footprint into event areas. If your property is affected by these restrictions, please sign up for more information and we’ll send specific guidance on how to access the area. We may also provide access wristbands to assist with entry into certain event areas.

Inner Event Areas: Access to these areas may require passing through security checkpoints, which may include bag searches in order to access your business or property.

Outer Event Areas: Access to these areas may require passing through security checkpoints around the perimeter of the event footprint where cordons have been placed to assist us with the management of tickets holders for the event.

Non Event Areas: Generally speaking, access to these areas is unrestricted. However, in the event we’re required to implement crowd management plans to assist with the management of ticket holders for the event, we may be required to restrict access to these areas temporarily to reduce the risk of overcrowding.

Please note: Access wristbands are not tickets to the event and are only provided to assist with access to your business or property once restrictions are in place. If you wish to attend the event, you can buy tickets from See Tickets.

All businesses open on New Year’s Eve within a Restricted Event Area - like offices, pubs, restaurants, theatres and hotels - will be able to request access wristbands for their staff and guests.

Travel in London on NYE will likely be busier than usual and routes to your premises may be affected. So you can inform your staff and guests, we will provide you with information on how to access the Restricted Event Area and the recommended route to your premises.

If your property is affected by these restrictions, please sign up for more information and we’ll send specific guidance on how to access the area.

All residents living within a Restricted Event Area will be able to request access wristbands for themselves and their guests.

If you live or work outside the Restricted Event Area you won’t need an access wristband to get to your home or business. However, you should be aware that transit through central London may be restricted in some areas and you might need to change travel plans or use alternative routes.

Remember, you can’t get into ticketed areas without a ticket. If you wish to attend the event, you can buy tickets from See Tickets.

Vehicle access will be restricted from the early afternoon on New Year’s Eve, usually 2:00pm, until around 6:00am on New Year's Day. Roads will be closed between Oxford Street in the north to Lambeth Bridge in the south, and Blackfriars Bridge in the east to Vauxhall Bridge in the west.

Some roads in central London will stay closed for the London New Year’s Day Parade.

Once available, we will provide a copy of the Metropolitan Police’s road closure and vehicle restrictions map on this website, so remember to check back closer to the event.

Whether a Business or Resident, access for deliveries or collections to restricted event areas will become increasingly more difficult from the early afternoon on New Year’s Eve until the following morning on New Year’s Day.

You may wish to notify any deliveries or collections of the restrictions and the times they will be enforced, alternatively, arrange them for a different day.

Vehicles, whether buses, coaches, cars, vans, trucks, or bikes, will not be allowed in the restricted event or surrounding areas. They must be parked outside the road closures. All vehicle parking will be suspended within the restricted event area.

As soon as the event is finished, we will clear the event area in order to start the clean up process. With the support of Westminster, Lambeth and Southwark Councils, we aim to have these areas returned to normal by 06:00 on January 1 2023.

Once the restricted event areas are clear, and it is safe to do so, the post-event clearing and cleaning operation will begin with the support of Westminster, Lambeth and Southwark Councils.

To ensure the safety and security of everyone, we operate a bag restriction policy at the event. This means no backpacks or suitcases will be allowed into the Inner Event Areas. If you are located within an Outer Event Area you may also be subject to bag searches.

As a resident, staff member, or guest of a resident or business requiring access to a property within the Inner Event Area, large bags, backpacks and suitcases will be allowed provided you show a valid access wristband to event stewards on entry. However, please try to avoid bringing oversized bags wherever possible, as all bags must be searched on entry to event areas and this may delay your arrival.

Access wristbands are only provided to assist with access your business or property if it is within a restricted event area. Access wristbands are non-transferable and may be invalidated should they be misused or misappropriated.

If you don’t have an access wristband or legal evidence of your right to be there, you won’t be allowed into the restricted event areas.

Please arrange to get wristbands to yourself, your staff (if a business) and guests beforehand to assist with access to your property on New Year’s Eve.

Stewards will check areas before closing them. They will ask anyone without a ticket, access wristband or proven legal right to be there to leave.

On 31st December CCTV cameras will be in operation within and around the ticketed viewing areas. The cameras are used by a trained operator and assist our event production company, Identity, to monitor crowd flow throughout the event. For more information please email: [email protected]
