Diversity and Inclusion Action Standard

The Mayor’s Vision

The Mayor, Sadiq Khan, wants the GLA group to lead the way with the highest standards for fair pay, good working conditions and workforce equality.

The Mayor’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy - Inclusive London includes a section setting out how the Mayor will lead by example on workforce diversity and inclusion across the organisations under his control, in order to achieve a truly diverse workforce reflective of London and inclusive cultures in which everyone can flourish.

Diversity and Inclusion Action Standard

To make sure there is a consistent approach to workforce diversity and inclusion across the GLA Group, we have developed a set of common practices and standards called the Diversity and Inclusion Action Standard. This is a benchmarking framework bespoke to and developed by the GLA Group organisations in collaboration with Equality Works Group - specialist diversity and inclusion consultants.

The Standard focuses on the GLA Group as employers. It focuses on action the organisations can take in order to raise the bar collectively on workforce diversity and inclusion and meet the vision as set out in Inclusive London.

What does it cover?

The Diversity and Inclusion Action Standard covers five key aspects of workforce diversity:

  • Diversity and Inclusion Foundations: the building blocks
  • Workforce representation: ensuring the workforce represents the London labour market
  • Recruitment: making sure there is equality of opportunity for applicants and pay is equitable
  • Career Development and Reward: Making career progression explicit and taking positive action, if necessary, to create a level playing field. Ensuring pay and other awards are fair and free of bias
  • Inclusive Culture: Creating the right environment so each member of staff can reach their potential

The Diversity and Inclusion Action Standard will help us to understand our own performance, share best practice, measure progress over time, and ensure a consistent approach to workforce diversity and inclusion across the GLA group organisations
