  • Retail sector in Lambeth

    • Reference: 2005/1777
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 14 September 2005
I have had heartfelt requests for support and help from shopkeepers on Wandsworth Road Lambeth, Black Prince Road Lambeth, Streatham Vale Lambeth, Lambeth Walk and Vauxhall St/Jonathon St Lambeth. In all case the shops are suffering from inadequate short stay shopper parking, inadequate loading facilities, over zealous parking enforcement, sometimes improperly carried out, and other problems such as crime, poor environment, raising Council shop rents and landlord mismanagement. There are also problems for traders on Streatham Hill caused by a Council sell off of shops. I foresee the death of the small independent traders in Lambeth and the loss of...
  • Rotherhithe and Surrey Quays - Multi-model Transport Study

    • Reference: 2005/1797
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 14 September 2005
When I met Transport for London officers and Southwark council officers in January of this year there was some agreement that there are problems of surface transport access to the Rotherhithe peninsula, which are becoming exacerbated by new developments. Southwark were to seek funding for a major transport study for the area through the BSP process and section 106 funding. I am now advised that TFL have told Southwark that a bid for such a study would not be appropriate and the process has ground to a halt. Can you please give a definitive view on whether TfL are willing...

  • Elephant and Castle

    • Reference: 2005/1804
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 14 September 2005
How can small business in the Elephant and Castle centre access support which has been promised from the LDA as I have been unable to obtain any public information about this.
  • Car Stereos

    • Reference: 2005/1805
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 14 September 2005
Does the Mayor support my view that the government should legislate to permit enforcement action to be taken against drivers who inflict super amplified music from 'bass tubes', or 'boom boxes' on the public?
  • Crystal Palace Park

    • Reference: 2005/0375-1
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 08 September 2005
How has the Olympic decision affected plans for Crystal Palace Park and Sports Centre, what are your views of the plans and proposals about to be published by the LDA?
  • Cross River Tram Scheme

    • Reference: 2005/1430
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 20 July 2005
Can the Mayor reassure South Londoners that he is committed to taking forward the Cross River (London) Tram scheme when resources become available, and what practical steps has TfL taken to put in place the staff capacity and to begin the work to ensure that both the proposed extension to the Croydon Tramlink and the CR Tram project will be delivered? Are you still aiming to be in a position to promote the TWA for the Cross River Tram by 2007?
  • Blackfriars Bridge

    • Reference: 2005/1274
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 22 June 2005
Lambeth and Southwark Cyclists have asked me to raise their serious concerns about Blackfriars Bridge with you, they tell me that : 'Motor traffic uses the bridge as a motorway, the current layout of the bridge, particularly at the north end encourages this and resources are not being made available for a redesign of the bridge and enforcement of 20mph speeds as recommended by the report to TfL from the Transport Research Laboratory (Commissioned in response to the widely reported cyclists death on the bridge last year). No one in TfL seems to be coordinating the area as a whole...
  • Waterloo station

    • Reference: 2005/1276
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 22 June 2005
It has been reported in specialist press that DfT are looking at options for the commercial redevelopment of the site of the current Euro star terminal at Waterloo when St Pancras takes over as the Euro star terminal in 2007. Given the current desperate shortage of rail head capacity at London's mainline stations do you support me in my view that the platforms vacated by Euro star at Waterloo should be given over to support extra commuter service capacity for south London train services? I believe it would be madness for London to lose such a scarce and high quality...
  • Elephant and Castle

    • Reference: 2005/1278
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 22 June 2005
I am grateful for the support and advice which the GLA, LDA and TfL have provided to Southwark Council to support the regeneration of the Elephant and Castle. Most recently I was pleased to discover that the LDA had provided resources to help the small businesses in the area through the transition. However, I was alarmed by the report given to me in person by the Heygate TRA that relationships and communication with the Council has seriously deteriorated. Tenants and residents tell me that their concerns - both long term on future building plans and current problems caused by dilapidations...
