Do you agree with the recommendations made by Kensington and Chelsea council's Commission on Retail Conservation, that developers should be forced to include 'affordable retail' units within shopping centres in the same way as affordable housing?
  • Exemptions from Congestion Charge for alternatively fuelled vehicles

    • Reference: 2007/2491
    • Question by: Peter Hulme Cross
    • Meeting date: 17 October 2007
Your proposal to remove alternatively fuelled vehicles from their current exemption from Congestion charging will mean that businesses that invested in these cars may not recoup the cost of their investment. There is surely little point in business responding to an incentive if it is to be threatened in this way? The Impact Assessment makes no attempt to quantify this loss to London businesses. The impact on manufacturers of alternative-fuelled cars, on LPG converters and on the 26 LPG access points in Greater London is acknowledged but conveniently left unquantified. Before taking this proposal any further, can the Mayor please...

  • YouGov/Taxpayers' Alliance Poll

    • Reference: 2007/2490
    • Question by: Damian Hockney
    • Meeting date: 17 October 2007
The Mayor's response to the YouGov/Taxpayers' Alliance Poll findings which showed declining support amongst Londoners for the Olympics was that the Taxpayers' Alliance is "a dodgy organisation" that "no reputable polling organisation would have taken on". YouGov complies with the same Code of Practice as his preferred pollster, Ipsos MORI. When YouGov conducted a similar poll on the Olympics some years ago, it found support for the Olympics and the Mayor was happy to quote it. At what point does the Mayor consider that YouGov became "disreputable"? Is YouGov still one of the twenty service providers to the GLA Group's...

  • Crossrail & City Airport

    • Reference: 2007/2493
    • Question by: Damian Hockney
    • Meeting date: 17 October 2007
There is widespread agreement that London City Airport is vital to the economy of the City and must not be under threat of closure. Now that Crossrail is to proceed, can the Mayor end the uncertainty he created over London City Airport when he stated in a reply to us (MQT 2379/2006) that "any expansion [of City Airport], which is likely in the run up to the Olympics, should not prejudice an overall review of the airport's role following the construction of Crossrail."

In his capacity as a self-proclaimed London nationalist, would the Mayor support measures to alleviate the effect of disproportionately high house prices on the London housing market?
  • Low emission zone and horseboxes (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Peter Hulme Cross
    • Meeting date: 12 September 2007
No, I suspect you have not owned a horse, Mr Mayor. A lot of these horses are actually shared between a number of different people and the cost does not always fall on just one person.
