  • Northbound bus lane in Norbury

    • Reference: 2005/0136-1
    • Question by: Andrew Pelling
    • Meeting date: 06 April 2005
I was very encouraged by the report dated the 16 March 2005 from Mr Hewitt of Transport for London to the Neighbourhood Partnership of Norbury and Upper Norwood in offering the prospect of careful reconsideration of the proposal for a northbound bus lane in Norbury. Do you share my concerns as to whether a northbound bus lane in Norbury would: A) Lead to much increased traffic going down Pollards Hill North because of the banned right hand turns into Beatrice Avenue and Norbury Court Road from the A23? B) Reduce space for pedestrians? C) Remove trees?

  • Crossrail

    • Reference: 2005/0026-1
    • Question by: Murad Qureshi
    • Meeting date: 06 April 2005
How confident are you of funding for Crossrail? How are you going to limit the impact of construction on the local business and residential communities in central London? What are the outstanding planning issues? .... Moving on to Crossrail, earlier you alluded to the historic levels of investment we are getting into London's transport infrastructure, and this really would be the icing on the cake having the Crossrail investment put in. Where are we with the funding in light of what the Montague Report was saying in the context of today?
  • Thames Gateway Bridge

    • Reference: 2005/0033-1
    • Question by: John Biggs
    • Meeting date: 06 April 2005
How will London be affected in your view if the Thames Gateway Bridge is not built? ... ): I would like to explore what I would call the Transport Commissioner's dilemma, which is that I think it is very interesting for the whole Assembly to support a commuter rail authority, and it is very easy for us to support the principle of Crossrail, but when we come down to individual schemes, such as the Thames Gateway Bridge, the West London Tram and the Congestion Charge extension, you get all sorts of local, understandable and in many cases legitimate concerns, and...

What alternative transport option will be available to the current 55,000 people who use the Tube during the first hour of operation over the weekend? There are other questions related to that, so perhaps you can give me a quick answer and then a long answer by mail.

There seems to be some likelihood that the North London Line and other lines currently operated by Silverlink Metro will in future be overseen by the Mayor and Transport for London. Do you expect to be able to influence the terms of the new franchise when it is granted in the autumn of 2006, and what conditions would you want the new franchisee to fulfil - for these particular lines?
