Question
Tube Noise North Greenwich to Canning Town (Jubilee line)
You took measurements on 10 May 2023 to assess the impact of the speed reduction trials that TfL has carried out. What is the analysis of the impact of these speed reduction trials?
Answer
Date: Tuesday 17 October 2023
Transport for London’s (TfL) trial found that that the implementation of a speed reduction did reduce noise levels in this area. However, a permanent speed reduction in this location would have a negative impact on service frequency, which would significantly disbenefit Jubilee line customers and as such TfL cannot take it forward at this time.
However, TfL continues to explore other options to reduce noise levels in this area and expects to have completed fitting sound absorbent materials around the tunnel entrance by spring 2024.
