Question

Tube Closures

I have received complaints from constituents that the planned tube closures at weekends are badly advertised. It is not enough to have them on a website somewhere and announced in the station tunnels when you have already bought your ticket and pre-planned your journey. Station closures should be displayed prominently for the coming weekend outside all tube stations, why isn't this done?

Answer

Date: Monday 18 December 2006

All stations that are directly or indirectly affected by closures display information a week prior to closure, giving notice of the closure and providing alternative travel advice. This information is displayed either outside stations or immediately upon entering the station. Furthermore, details of forthcoming planned closures for the month and week ahead are displayed at all stations. In addition, LU has therefore developed and implemented a `Check Before You Travel' campaign using a variety of different media including:' TfL website contains a short and long term look ahead of planned works' TfL Journey Planner is updated with all closures so that customers using this service can plan alternative routes' Ceefax page 436 and teletext page 164 contain information about affected services' The Metro newspaper also carries a page every Friday detailing closure information for the following weekend as well as regular features about planned closures' The London Travel information line (020 7222 1234), operational 24 hours a day, contains up to date information and is promoted on the poster information referred to above' Registered Oyster holders receive a weekly email detailing planned closures for the forthcoming weekend.' Customers can also register for sms text alerts to receive this information' In addition Press information is sent to national and local papers, TV and radio stations to inform their travel advice services.
