A report commissioned by 'Big Brother Watch' found that 2,000 data breaches conducted by police officers and staff occurred over a four-and-a-half year period. What measures does the Metropolitan Police Service have in place to ensure that its officers and staff comply with the Data Protection Act?
Answer
Officers are preparing an answer.
MOPAC continues to support the MPS in their work to ensure that police officers and staff uphold the values of the police service and maintain the confidence of Londoners.
The MPS has an Information Management Policy and supporting policy toolkits that define how their information and systems are to be used. Further instructions are set out in an Information Code of Conduct.
All police officers and staff are required to complete a mandatory computer based training package which explains the legal and policy limitations on use of personal data and our information systems. All users are required to confirm their acceptance of and adherence to these policies every three months.
Supervisory checks are undertaken on key policing systems in order to check the validity of use.
