Question
Free School Meals (2)
What steps do you take to ensure that ingredients used in your Free School Meals initiative are from good, ethical and sustainable sources?
Answer
Date: Tuesday 27 February 2024
City Hall does not have direct relationships with caterers and the content of school meal contracts are for decision locally. As part of their grant conditions and principles all London boroughs are asked to ensure that their schools meet the Government's School Food Standards. Within these standards, there is guidance around sustainable procurement to help schools build stronger links with local food suppliers. We will also continue to share good practice with boroughs and schools on this.
