How many recruits have been subjected to standard DBS checks since it was greenlit by the government in April 2023?

In 2023 the Government announced that fire and rescue authorities can carry out standard, rather than basic, DBS checks. 391 London Fire Brigade (LFB) recruits have been subjected to basic DBS checks since April 2023. LFB will be maximising the use of these powers and is working with the NFCC to adopt national guidance. In February 2024, LFB started a rolling three-year vetting programme of staff. Approximately 1800 staff, including Firefighters, will have an enhanced or standard DBS check every year.
