Question
Croydon Borough Policing
What do you judge to be the key achievements of the Croydon Borough command in the last financial year and the main challenges facing the Croydon Borough Command in this financial year?
Answer
Croydon Borough achieved considerable success during 2004/05, exceeding all its major crime reduction targets. Street crime was down a massive 13.1% (target 6%), residential burglary down 8.6% (target 5%), autocrime down 6% (target 5%) and gun enabled crime down 11.6% on the previous year (no target).
For 2005/06, the challenge for Croydon, like other London Boroughs, will be to build on this success and deliver against the broader crime reduction targets in the British Crime Survey "basket of ten" performance indicators, broadening our mission to increase detection rates and deliver reassurance through the roll out of Safer Neighbourhood Teams and to tackle violent crime.
