City Hall relocation - one year on

One year on from the City Hall relocation from central London to the Royal Docks, has the move out to E16 worked for the Mayor, the Assembly, Greater London Authority (GLA) staff and Londoners?

Questions have been asked about the potential reputational risk of moving London Government from a centrally, purpose-built London location. Has the move delivered on financial and energy savings as planned, and what impact has the move had on the surrounding area?

The GLA and the London Assembly moved into the new City Hall at the Royal Docks on 21 March 2022.

Approaching the one-year anniversary of the switch from the Queen’s Walk building to the Royal Docks location, the London Assembly GLA Oversight Committee will today meet to review the extent to which the relocation has been a success, and how the move has affected Assembly Members, staff and external stakeholders.

City Hall is still experiencing snagging issues which the GLA claim is due to issues with its contractor, which the GLA has now given notice to. [1] The Committee will also discuss the financial impact the relocation has had on the Royal Docks area and what cost savings the building has made.

Guests include:

•           Mary Harpley, Chief Officer, GLA

•           Simon Grinter, Head of Facilities Management, GLA

•           Steve Sheasby, Head of Delivery, GLA

•           Daniel Bridge, Royal Docks Programme Director, GLA

The meeting will take place on Wednesday 15 March 2023 from 2pm in The Chamber, at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way.

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
