Mayor’s response to the Government’s consultation - 'Overcoming the barriers to longer tenancies in the private rented sector'

The Mayor has welcomed the Government’s willingness to address this vital issue but makes clear in his response that the three-year fixed term tenancy proposed in the consultation is insufficient to address the acute challenges that London’s 2.4 million renters face.

The response is made up of three parts:

  • Letter to Rt Hon James Brokenshire MP summarising the Mayor's position
  • Annex 1: Detailed response to the questions posed in the Ministry's consultation paper
  • Annex 2: Outline of the Mayor's London Model for tenancy reform and its key components
