About the role

The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) is the organisation through which the Mayor of London exercises his role as the Police and Crime Commissioner for London and is led by the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime. MOPAC undertakes a broad range of statutory duties and works closely with the Mayor of London, the Deputy Mayor, and the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) to deliver the priorities that will create safer London communities.

We are looking to strengthen our financial oversight team and we have exciting opportunities for individuals with an interest in providing high-quality strategic financial advice to the MOPAC Chief Financial Officer and the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime. Providing oversight of the MPS budget, you will play a key role in shaping financial efficiency and accountability, including the medium-term financial plan, capital strategy, major transformational programmes and significant commercial contracts. This role will be attractive to those who are strategic thinkers and are able to identify the key issues. The ability to write clear briefings, analyse significant investment proposals and develop and maintain good working relationships are a key part of the role.

Application Process

Candidates need to submit their CV and employment history and must answer the supplementary questions which are:

  1. Give an example of when you have scrutinised business cases for investment in key projects/technology.  What key elements did you draw out in your analysis?
  2. How have you effectively managed budgets and independently planned projects to meet deadlines? Highlight a specific project where your financial leadership skills played a pivotal role in achieving successful outcomes.
  3. Describe a time when you prepared a complex financial briefing for senior leaders or stakeholders. What was the purpose of the briefing, how did you ensure accuracy and clarity, and what was the impact of your work?
  4. Provide an overview of your experience working in political environments. How did you navigate challenges related to political dynamics while fulfilling financial responsibilities, emphasising instances where you maintained objectivity and transparency?
