Question

Lambeth Council has recently lost £3 millions by employing a staff member without checking his credentials, who went on to set up a phantom company to supply non existent central heating systems for Council properties. Do you believe that standards of probity and financial management leave anything to be desired in this key Liberal Democrat and Tory run London Borough?

Answer

Answer for Lambeth Council

Answer for Lambeth Council

No. Clearly there is a serious lack of management controls within the housing department of Lambeth Council. What is more concerning is that the executive of the Council concerned has not taken full responsibility for the failures of this department and that a lack of direct action on the council's part has meant that the money is unlikely to be recovered at all. Council tenants in the area will still not receive the new heating systems the £3 million was originally intended to provide.
